OCHS Bass Fishing Team
We are a High School Bass Fishing team located in Buckner, KY. We are fortunate enough to have the support of our community, the administration of OCHS, as well as KHSAA. We started this program to give student anglers the opportunity to participate in the rapidly growing sport of High School Fishing. The Spring of 2018 was our inaugural year with 30 team members and with some learning lessons behind us we are looking forward to the 2023/2024 season! What We Do
We participate in tournaments, community outreach events, fundraisers, seminars and local lake practices that are fun for the students, instructors and boat captains. |

Coaching / Fishing / Mentoring
The OCHS Bass Team provides opportunities to fish, learn, and grow as an angler. Our coaching philosophy is that we help everyone from novice to the more experienced fisherman. This includes the coaches, boat captains, and student anglers.
Meetings and Training Sessions
We will have, at a minimum, two monthly meetings for most of the year but in the Spring our meetings will be more frequent. At our monthly meetings we recap who / how / why we caught fish, providing a great opportunity to learn from each other and improve our fishing knowledge and techniques. We utilize this to prepare for tournament competitions. Our meetings will be held at the Arvin Center and will focus on safety, professionalism, environmental conservation, and fishing tips/techniques. At times we are fortunate enough to have industry experts and professional fisherman come in and teach.
Local Lake Fishing and Practice
We will utilize our coaches and volunteers to provide hands on fishing sessions concentrating on presentation, lure selection, technique, lake presence, and tournament preparation.
Local Lake Fishing Competitions
These are friendly competitions with prizes for big bass and best 5 fish per boat.
Bass Tournaments
We participate in KHSAA, B.A.S.S., KBN, and The Bass Federation/Student Angler Federation (TBF/SAF) sanctioned tournaments. Winners can advance to State and National Championship Tournaments. Anglers must have an adult (Boat Captain) with them during these events.
Community Outreach Events
We believe that being an active part in our community is of the upmost importance. We are partners with HighPoint Ministries in La Grange with whom we hold an annual food drive and assist with distributing food items to the community during the Holiday Season. We also hold an annual Kids Fishing Derby in hopes to bring the future generation of anglers to the outdoors.
Volunteer Boat Captains Needed!
You can not believe how much fun it is to be part of this team. We promise you will have fun and will not be disappointed. If you are interested in joining our team as a Boat Captain, please reach out to Coach Wise and he will give you complete details.
As you can imagine, we want to give back more to the anglers, sponsors, team, and our community. In order to accomplish this, we are looking for volunteers and boat captains. We have a variety of needs that can fit into your time schedule. If interested in more information, please email Coach Wise ([email protected]) and he will get in touch with you.
