kids fishing derby

Picture
The Oldham County High School Bass Team will hold our fourth annual Kids Fishing Derby for kids ages 14 and under on Saturday, September 17, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Eagle Creek Golf Course. It’s FREE for the kids!  Registration will be from 8:00 am – 9:00 am under the pavilion at Eagle Creek GC.  An awards ceremony will take place immediately following the conclusion of the fishing derby.  All children must be supervised by an adult.

Prizes will be awarded for smallest, largest, and most fish caught in the following age categories: 4 years and under, 5-7 years, 8-10 years, and 11-14 years.
Taking a youngster fishing can be one of the most rewarding experiences an adult can have with a child.  Don't worry if you have never fished before.  We will provide the bait, but we will have a limited number of fishing poles available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis.  If you own a pole, we certainly encourage you to bring it. You will be able to purchase your family’s lunch right at the pond!  Members of our Bass Team will be cooking up hotdogs and hamburgers with all the fixings!

We will be introducing kids to good conservation habits and sportsmanship and will be practicing ‘catch and release’.  Catch and release, or carefully returning caught fish to the water instead of keeping the fish to eat, is important so that the next time you go fishing at your favorite fishing hole, you can expect to catch a fish.
Volunteers: Even if you don't have a kid to bring, mark September 18 on your calendar. We will surely need fishermen and fisherwomen to help youngsters who may need a little. Come on out to Eagle Creek Golf Course, share your experience, and help teach kids the fun of fishing!
